Limited compatibility

Unsafe. Moderate/severe adverse effects. Compatible under certain circumstances. Follow-up recommended. Use safer alternative or discontinue breastfeeding from 5 to 7 T ½ . Read Commentary.

It is an irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type A and B with actions and uses similar to those of phenelzine. Used in the treatment of depression. Oral administration in one or two daily doses.

Since the last update we have not found any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

The few known pharmacokinetic data do not allow to predict the possible passage into breast milk.

Until there is more published data on this drug in relation to breastfeeding, safer known alternatives may be preferable, especially during the neonatal period and in cases of prematurity.
