Piperonyl butoxide is used as a synergist mixed with piperonyl and pyrethrins or pyrethroids in the treatment of pediculosis, head and body lice and pubis (crabs).
Its cutaneous absorption is minimal, around 2% (Buist 2005, Selim 1999), so it is unlikely that it reaches significant concentrations in breast milk.
Its sporadic use is compatible with breastfeeding.
Avoid applying it on the breast or nipple. Otherwise, cleanse it thoroughly before nursing.
