吲达帕胺

Likely Compatibility

Fairly safe. Mild or unlikely adverse effects. Compatible under certain circumstances. Follow-up recommended. Read Commentary.

Thiazide-like diuretic. indicated in the treatment of hypertension and for oedema associated with heart failure. Oral administration once a day.

Since the last update we have not found any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

Long-term treatment with diuretic drugs (particularly those Thiazides with long lasting effect and loop-acting drugs) may inhibit lactation, but despite some older studies, there is no scientific evidence that diuretics reduce breast milk production (Rowe 2013).

Use a lower dose as possible, especially during the first postnatal month. Expert authors consider the use of this medication to be probably compatible during breastfeeding. (Hale 2019, Briggs 2017)

Alternatives

  • Chlorothiazide (Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)
  • Furosemide (Fairly safe. Mild or unlikely adverse effects. Compatible under certain circumstances. Follow-up recommended. Read Commentary.)
  • Hydrochlorothiazide (Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
