The leaf is used. It contains phenolic acids, including cynarin, flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones, organic acids, potassium and magnesium salts, mucilages, essential oil, phytosterols (sitosterol and stigmasterol), triterpene alcohols and vitamins (A, B2 and C). At the time of the last update we found no published data on its excretion in breast milk.

Plant devoid of toxicity and widely used as food.
