Tolmetin Sodium

Compatible

Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Indicated in joint and musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Oral administration in three daily doses.

It is excreted in breast milk in clinically insignificant amounts.(Sagraves 1985)

American Academy of Pediatrics: medication usually compatible with breastfeeding. (AAP 2001)

Until more published data is known about this drug in relation to breastfeeding, known safer alternatives may be preferable, especially during the neonatal period and in the event of prematurity.

Alternatives

  • Ibuprofen (Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)
  • Paracetamol (Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)
