Thioacetazone

Fairly safe. Mild or unlikely adverse effects. Compatible under certain circumstances. Follow-up recommended. Read Commentary.

Very low-cost bacteriostatic antituberculous drug, but less effective than other treatment regimens and with frequent severe skin reactions, which is why it is rarely used (Falzon 2014). Used alone or in combination with isoniazid. Daily oral administration.

At the date of the last update we did not find any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

The paucity of known pharmacokinetic data does not allow prediction of its possible excretion in breast milk.

Known safer alternatives are preferable, especially during the neonatal period and in the event of prematurity.
