Sonohysterography

Compatible

Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

The high frequency sound waves used in this technique are not radioactive (Wang 2012) so they do not cause alterations in the production or composition of breastmilk.
Breast ultrasound does not cause changes in prolactin levels (Saraç 2008).

Ultrasound is compatible with breastfeeding and immediately after this examination you can breastfeed without problems.
Thin or thick needle biopsy under ultrasound control can be carried out during breastfeeding (Mitchell 2019).

The American College of Radiology (ACR) recommends that diagnostic breast imaging in breastfeeding women follow the same guidelines as for women who are not breastfeeding, with the exception of ductography, which is not recommended during breastfeeding (Mitchell 2019, Expert Panel 2018).

Breast images during breastfeeding are the same as for women who are not breastfeeding. However, breast tissue tends to be denser during breastfeeding: breastfeeding or expressing milk before the exam can improve the interpretation of mammography (Mitchell 2019, Romero 2019).

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
