The male condom is a barrier method of contraception made of latex and polyurethane that is placed over the erect penis. If used properly, they are an effective barrier to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.^{(MedlinePlus 2023)}

Barrier methods of contraception are effective and have no adverse effects on the mother, the baby or breastfeeding. Condoms are compatible with breastfeeding.^{(Berens 2015, CLM 2012, Amir 2011, FFPRHC 2004, WHO 2002)}
