Perprazole

Compatible

Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), S enantiomer of Omeprazole, with the same actions and uses. Indicated in the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux. Oral administration once daily.

Like omeprazole (Nava 2006), it is excreted in breast milk in clinically insignificant amounts (Saito 2020) and no problems have been observed in an infant whose mother have taken it. (Saito 2020)

Since it's neutralized by the acid pH of stomach, capsules with enteric coated granules are used. Because of this, it is thought that the small quantity of Esomeprazole that may reach the breast milk would be neutralized by infant's stomach. In addition, absorption is greatly decreased by the presence of food.

Esomeprazole has been used for treatment of newborn and premature infants. (Omari 2009)

Hyperprolactinemia and galactorrhea have been reported by the use of Esomeprazole. (Pipaliya 2016)

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
