Modified Cellulose Gum

Compatible

Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

A semisynthetic polymer derived from cellulose, inert and viscoelastic with thickening, bioadhesive and solubility enhancing properties.
It is used as a drug coating in order to modify its intestinal release and prolong its effect, in preparations for wounds, as artificial saliva and as a lubricant in the form of eye drops.

Since the last update we have not found published data on its excretion in breastmilk.

Being a cellulose derivative, it is not absorbed in the intestine, or as an ophthalmological preparation (AEMPS 2018), so it is highly unlikely to appear in breastmilk.
Its high molecular weight still makes its excretion in breastmilk unlikely.

It is an inert product that is not metabolized and is devoid of toxicity, lacking systemic side effects.

The manufacturer considers the use of this medication to be safe during breastfeeding (AEMPS 2018, Allergan 2014).

Alternatives

We do not have alternatives for Modified Cellulose Gum since it is relatively safe.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
