Synthetic derivative of lactulose. It is a disaccharide analogue of lactulose with similar action and uses.
It does not hydrolyze in the intestine, so it is not absorbed, reaching the colon intact, where it exerts its function as an osmotic laxative (AEMPS 2015, Würsch 1989, Metzger 1988). Indicated in constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.
Oral administration in a daily dose.

Since the last update we have not found published data on its excretion in breastmilk.

Its virtually zero oral bioavailability makes plasma levels null and therefore does not transfer to breastmilk (AEMPS 2015, P-RMS 2010).

For the same reason, it impedes transfer from breastmilk to infant plasma.
