Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)

Compatible

Safe substance and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

Amniocentesis and chorion biopsy are invasive prenatal diagnostic techniques whose purpose is to rule out a congenital defect during pregnancy, whether it is chromosomal or not.
The risk of fetal loss or miscarriage following invasive prenatal diagnostic techniques is less than 1% (Mayo Clinic 2019, SJD 2019, SCH 2019, SEGO 2018, Ghi 2016, AEP 2015, Cruz 2014, SOGC 2015 and 2005).

After the test is carried out, most gynecology and obstetrics associations, clinical guidelines and protocols from prestigious hospitals recommend (with very little evidence) resting at home and avoiding excessive exercise for one or two days (Mayo Clinic 2019, SJD 2019, Dexeus 2019, MBMC 2019, SCH 2019, SEGO 2018 and 2013, Ghi 2016, AEP 2015, Cruz 2014, SOGC 2015 and 2005) and some also advise sexual abstinence during that period (Mayo Clinic 2019, Dexeus 2019, AEP 215).

None of the sources consulted recommends abstaining from breastfeeding; some, on the contrary, advise continuing breastfeeding (CLM-AEP 2011).

Since the last update we have not found any published data that support the discontinuing of breastfeeding after the test.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
