Cellulose

Compatible

Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

It is a polysaccharide with linked glucose units. It is the main component of plant fibres. It acts as a binder, absorbent and thickener in many pharmaceutical preparations and as a laxative. It is used orally in the treatment of constipation and, as a satiating agent combined with citric acid, in the treatment of obesity; topically in hyperhidrosis. Dispersible cellulose, microcrystalline and powder forms are available. Oral and topical cutaneous administration.

At the date of the last update, no published data on its excretion in breast milk could be found.

It has zero bioavailability because it is not digested nor absorbed in the intestine (FDA 2018), so it does not pass into the blood plasma and therefore does not pass into breast milk either.

Alternatives

We do not have alternatives for Cellulose since it is relatively safe.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
