Calcium Folinate

Compatible

Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

Folinic acid is the active form of folic acid. It is used in the form of its salts: calcium or sodium folinate.
Indicated as an antidote to folic acid antagonists such as methotrexate, trimethoprim or pyrimethamine, together with fluorouracil in the treatment of colorectal cancer and in megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency.
Oral, intramuscular or intravenous administration.

At the date of the last update, the authors did not find any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

Since the various salts of folinic acid are active forms of folic acid, which is a physiological nutrient present in the body and in breast milk and more abundant in breastfed infants (Matoth 1965 and 1964, Karin 1957), it is unlikely that they can cause unwanted side effects.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
