ART AND CULTURE OF SUCKLING

Suckling as a biological phenomenon, which is fundamental for human survival, has been heavily influenced by culture from immemorial times.

Therefore, breastfeeding promotion can not be uniquely based on medical scientific grounds by showing its role in establishing an early mother-child bonding, a competent immunological response or an optimal nutrition that may guarantee the survival of newborns and hence of our specie.

Cultural phenomena, to be successfully introduced, must be enticing and heart touching. At the present, civilized world should not obviate that suckling is a good thing and beautiful as well, and, that it has at least an enriched past history.
